Oceanview Shades and Draperies completes active summer
Design District has been a boon for firm

With South Florida's vaunted "season" just now on the horizon, the Miami Design District's Oceanview Shades and Draperies has already enjoyed a busy 2007.

"We've just finished the busiest two months in the business history," said owner Lynn Sampson. "It's been so busy, I've hired a new decorator consultant, because we continue to expand."

Sampson said moving to the Design District really began the expansion, resulting most recently in the hiring of Laura Lafata.

"She joined the company in June, has really flourished and says she's finally doing what she wants to do," Sampson said.

Design firm excels in Design District
Multiple, personal services in one site
By Jack Riggs
December 7, 2006

Lynn Sampson is excited about this Saturday's December 9, Art Meets Design component of Art Basel Miami Beach in the Miami Design District. This despite the fact that Sampson's own adorable, cottage site in the District won't have the doors open that night.

"We aren't the kind of company with a display window," said Sampson. "I'm excited because ("Art Meets Design" is a sign that the Design District has captured international attention, that it obviously has international appeal".

Sampson is owner of Oceanview Shades and Drapery and Lynn Sampson Interiors. She had 25 years experience in design textiles before moving to Miami in 2000, opening her business, and then, in June, moving to the heart of the Design District.

"It's great being in the Design District because you step outside your door and are immersed in the fashion scene." Sampson said. "You see all the new trends and materials right away and you are part of a community."

Sampson parlays the Design District experience as well as her own into burgeoning success in both enterprises. Ocenview's expertise includes practical and aesthetic shades, draperies and window treatments. When clients want to take advantage of Sampson's taste in backgrounds, home accessories, furnishings, etc. then Lynn Sampson Interiors offers high-end design firm guidance at less than traditional Design District cost. Sampson "doesn't do construction," she said. But she meets with clients in their own homes for personalized, in-context service and without consultation fees.

The effect of Sampson's warm disposition, experience and expertise, Design District inspiration and approach to her work has been rapid growth and a strong reputation for quality and top-notch client services.

Decorator Lynn Sampson Moves Studio to Design District
by Linda Rodriguez Bernfeld
August 21 - September 3, 2006

Interior designer Lynn Sampson has a new home for her studio.

Sampson recently opened shop at 62 NE 40 Steet in the Miami Design District. It's a small shop in a cute little cottage near way to the Post Office, so everyone passes by at some time or another.

"I decided not to go with a big plate glass studio," Sampson says. "I have signage rights on Northeast 40th and 39th Streets."

The studio is open by appointment only because Sampson is often visiting clients in their home or going out to buy essential materials for work projects. She believes that visiting a client in their new home is the most effective way of communicating.

"The studio is here for people who may want to preview new fabrics and new colors, but when we come down to the final selection,we are still better served to do it in their home," she says. "I'm very happy to take my business out of a home-based business into a studio. It's (the Design District) going to be a major destination shopping area."

The new studio is within blocks of a soon-to-open Home Depot and other big box stores.

Interior Design Students Re-Vision
Miami Beach Condo Building

April 13, 2005

(Miami, FL) - It must have felt like the opening episode of a reality show as Gina Tanner's Interior Design students sat at drafting tables in their second-floor classroom furiously scribbling notes about room dimensions, budget restrictions, and carpet patterns. Each of these Miami International University of Art & Design students hoped to be the one to create the design for a renovation of La Gorce Palace Condominium, a feat that could earn them not only an A in the class but also a hefty $1,000 prize check.

Lynn Sampson of Lynn Sampson Interiors, the firm chosen by La Gorce to mastermind the renovation of the waterfront building on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, presented photos of the buildings in a presentation to the students on the first day of their class. “We wanted to transform the little building that can't. The building is 20 years old and needs to modernize,” she said. “We wanted fresh approaches from a new generation of designers to go into this project because the residents are concerned about competition from new towers going up in the neighborhood.”

Lynn Sampson Interiors Sponsors Design Contest
by Linda Rodriguez Bernfeld
February 21 - March 6, 2005

La Gorce Palace, a condominium in Miami Beach, soon will get a makeover of its corridors and social areas.

Thanks to Lynn Sampson Interriors, the students at International University of Art and Design, part of the Art Institute, will compete to design that project.

"The senior commercial design class, which consists of approximately 12 students, is doing the design theme for renovation of the corridor and social areas so that the association, instead of having one designer do one design, will have 12 designs," Sampson says. "We are going to present the 12 designs and we are going to narrow that down to three finalists."
